10G industrial grade PON+Wi-Fi 6 is the standard configuration of boutique business dedicated lines

2019-05-22 11:40:18

The industrial-grade PON of the operator's network business is mainly corporate private lines and home broadband. The corporate private lines are oriented to commercial scenarios and create huge profits for the operators. Its performance requirements are far greater than home broadband, but there is an embarrassing situation: dedicated line products that should provide "high priority" services for the majority of small and medium-sized enterprises, but now maintain the same level as home broadband!

Why are enterprise private lines lagging behind home broadband?

The development of home broadband has always been concerned by consumers. According to statistics, as of May, operators in more than 70 provinces have released gigabit broadband services for home users, and the number of users with packages is also increasing rapidly. Fixed Internet broadband access users with access rates of 1000 Mbps (Gigabit) and above reached 2.26 million, a net increase of 1.39 million over the end of the previous year.

Unlike the booming development of home gigabit networks, enterprise private line broadband is still stagnant. If you log on to the telecom operator's website, you will find that it is also based on an industrial-grade PON network, and the dedicated line bandwidth for the 2B market is generally lower than that of home broadband. Especially in the private line market for small and medium-sized enterprises, most of them still stay at the bandwidth below 200M.

You may be wondering, why the pursuit of a higher-quality corporate private line network is not as good as a home network in terms of bandwidth? This is mainly due to the following reasons:

First of all, most companies use ordinary GPON household optical modems to open dedicated lines. From the perspective of network planning, according to the traffic convergence model, GPON can generally only support package bandwidth below 300M, which is far inferior to 10G industrial-grade PON.

Secondly, due to the asymmetric technical characteristics of GPON, it cannot support the deployment of large-scale symmetrical upstream and downstream dedicated line services. At the same time, there are problems such as insufficient network concurrency and forwarding performance. More than 70% of enterprise users consider bandwidth acceleration, but it is difficult to achieve rapid upgrades, resulting in increased churn rates.

Finally, under the premise that Wi-Fi is a necessary configuration, traditional enterprise private lines still use old single-band optical modems or routers to access, which leads to a lower user experience and it is difficult to satisfy corporate customers.

A sudden epidemic in early 2020 has brought no small challenges to all industries, and at the same time made enterprises aware of the importance of digital transformation. However, in the process of enterprise digital transformation, whether it is going to the cloud, the Internet of Things, or the application of industrial robots, a large amount of data will be generated. Boutique business dedicated lines with higher bandwidth, more stability, and better Wi-Fi experience will become rigid demand.

Therefore, in the face of the requirements of enterprise users to increase speed and quality, operators can choose 10G industrial-grade PON + Wi-Fi 6, build boutique business dedicated lines, and win more markets-small investment, big harvest!
